An Elgin police officer yesterday shot and killed a dog that had attacked a juvenile moments before.
At 7:37 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Kathleen Drive and Meyer Street for a report of multiple juveniles being attacked by a dog. They found a large breed dog attacking a juvenile lying on the ground.
An adult male subject separated the attacking dog from the juvenile, and both ran clear from the immediate area. However, the dog got up and continued to be aggressive.
An officer was forced to fire at the dog, fatally wounding it.
Three juveniles received injuries from the dog attack; all three were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
