For over a year, Rene Tux Ico of Aurora sexually assaulted a young family member who had just arrived in the United States. In exchange for pleading guilty to the crime, Ico has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Last Thursday, Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced that the 29-year-old Ico had agreed to the sentence in exchange for a guilty plea to the offense of aggravated criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony.
“This defendant took advantage of a situation, raping a young family member who trusted him,” stated Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Lori Schmidt after the sentencing. “The victim was new to the United States and highly vulnerable, yet the defendant thought only of himself, knowing his actions were criminal. He seemed more concerned about getting caught than his victim’s well-being.
“I hope the victim feels that justice has been done. She has experienced a lot of trauma, particularly for someone her age. My thanks to the staff at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora for recognizing that something was amiss and calling the police.”
In addition to the prison term, Tux Ico must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
Illinois law states that Tux Ico must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. Tux Ico receives credit for 621 days served in the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $1 million bail.
