The City of Geneva announced today that the Geneva flag would be lowered to half mast in honor of Ann Burns, mother of Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns.
The announcement indicated that Ann passed on May 3. She was 81 years old.
An obituary posted on the Malone Funeral Home website indicated that Ann was born August 28, 1940, in Freeport, the daughter of William and Florence (Jackson) Cunningham.
“Ann moved to Geneva, Illinois in 1974 and immediately invested her time, talent and treasure by volunteering for the betterment of the schools, park district and city. Ann and her husband, John, helped on school and park district referenda and co-founded the Geneva Vikings All Sports Boosters Club as well as serving on Geneva High School’s Prom and Post Prom Committee. Ann served on the City of Geneva’s Planning Commission and was a candidate for the City Council.”
The website announced that a “celebration of Ann’s life” will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, at The Herrington Inn & Spa’s Pump House Room from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
