USDA Prime Beef 40 Day Dry-Aged Bone-In Steak, Cowboy Ribeye and Prime Rib
Since opening to the public in 2020 after 65-years as a members-only Supper Club, you would think that there would be many signature dishes that The Anvil Club could tout to the world. And to be sure, its menu is rife with classics from Lobster Bisque to Surf & Turf. However, the Club’s tagline speaks succinctly to The Anvil Club’s claim to fame: “Prime Steaks and Seafood since 1956.” Not Select. Not Choice. USDA Prime! The USDA website says: “ Prime beef is produced from young, well-fed beef cattle. It has abundant marbling (the amount of fat interspersed with lean meat) and is generally sold in restaurants and hotels. Prime roasts and steaks are excellent for dry-heat cooking such as broiling, roasting, or grilling.” From the Club’s 22 oz. USDA Prime 40-day dry-aged, bone-in, Cowboy Ribeye to our succulent Prime Rib, the Anvil Club is the ultimate place for Steakhouse favorites.

Scottish Afternoon Tea
The Duchess of Bedford, Anna Maria Stanhope – lifelong friend and Lady to Queen Victoria – originated the enchanting custom of British “afternoon tea” in the early 1800s. The duchess felt that such an afternoon break would nicely supplement the typical light lunch, which she felt was not sufficient to avoid “a sinking feeling” in the mid-afternoon. The menu she devised for the summering royals of Belvoir Castle in the 1840s centered around small cakes, bread and butter sandwiches, assorted sweets and, of course, tea. It was designed to sustain one between the light midday meal and dinner, often not held until 8pm or later. Immediately popular at Belvoir, the Duchess brought her tea back to London and began inviting friends to join her. Afternoon tea quickly became a favorite pastime across Britain and Scotland – including by British royalty – and is today a favorite of Queen Elizabeth.
Foodies and all restaurant-goers can now enjoy this lovely custom closer to home at Balmoral Restaurant. Balmoral’s Scottish Afternoon Tea offers delectable items that are carefully made-to-order for you by the restaurant’s chefs the day of your reservation. Some items are imported directly from Great Britain to add to the authenticity of the experience. The menu boasts some 16 items per person, which include cake, biscuits, shortbread, chocolates, a selection of finger sandwiches and a variety of other savory items. You might enjoy Balmoral’s just-baked scones with their house-made clotted cream, plus strawberry jam made with fresh strawberries. It’s no wonder that Balmoral has been voted Best Tea Service in the Chicagoland area. And you’ll feel like royalty as you enjoy your afternoon tea experience on Royal Albert Country Roses Fine China, alongside gold-plated cutlery and beautifully cut crystal glasses.
You are invited to join in this wonderful social tradition of tea and treats while catching up with family and friends, available at Balmoral Restaurant every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, between 2 and 5. For the full tea menu, visit Balmoralrestaurant.com.
