Elgin firefighters rescued a teen from the second floor of a burning house in the 600 block of Dover Drive Friday morning.
At just after 9:30 a.m., Friday, members of the Elgin Fire Department responded to the 600 block of Dover Drive for a report of a possible structure fire. While en route to the fire, crews were informed that one occupant had jumped from a second floor window, and that someone might still be in the home.
Fire companies found the entire front portion of a two story home on fire with fire extending into the attic spaces. Fire crews immediately extinguished the exterior part of the fire that was blocking the front door.
They then entered the home, went to the second floor, located, and removed the person still inside. Both patients were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The fire was brought under control in approximately forty minutes. The home suffered extensive fire and smoke damage. Initial damage estimates are in excess of $200,000.
There were no firefighter injuries due to the fire.
Hanover Township Emergency Services provided assistance on the scene. Fire Departments from South Elgin, Rutland-Dundee, Algonquin, Huntley, and Fox River provided station coverage and handled several incidents during the fire.
The home was red-tagged as it is uninhabitable and Code Enforcement was notified for follow-up. Initial indications show the cause of the fire was accidental, the Elgin Fire Department Fire Investigation Team is investigating.
