An intrepid wild turkey become an instant social media sensation yesterday as he wandered the streets of St. Charles for hours, seemingly unaware of the uproar he was causing.
The precocious bird came out of the west, apparently, beginning his (we’re not sure about the gender here) sojourn by crossing Randall Road near Route 64 in St. Charles at around 7:45am.
From that point forward, social media sites such as the popular “What’s Happening in St, Charles?” group [full disclosure: the group is maintained by Fox Valley Magazine] followed his every move throughout the day.
The explorer was tracked moving east, past Thompson Middle School, ending up in downtown St. Charles. His path is unclear, but it is fairly certain that he did not cross the Fox River, but rather wandered around downtown and in and out of residential areas for the full day. At one point, he appeared to be interested in checking into Hotel Baker on Main Street, however.
Poster Amy Radez, the owner of Doggie Divine Pet Salon, temporarily had the bird cornered as she awaited the arrival of Suburban Wildlife Control, a state-licensed provider of humane nuisance animal control. But to no avail. The turkey escaped to a nearby roof and remained free to wander.
The latest known sighting of the mystery bird was this morning at approximately 7am in a driveway on South Fourth Street. The search continues…
