An apparent domestic dispute in Elgin led to an 11-hour stand-off overnight.
At a little past 7pm Friday evening, Elgin police were called to a residence in the 0-100 block of Walker Place in the city’s Historic District to investigate an alleged domestic dispute. The situation deteriorated, with a subject barricading themselves from police.
Officers from the SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, Collaborative Crisis Service Unit, and the Major Investigations Division arrived on scene and, while it was determined that the incident was an isolated one and that there was no threat to the public, the police advised the public to steer clear of the area.
After an 11-hour standoff, police successfully convinced the subject to be taken into custody without incident, and police cleared the area.
