Two people were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries resulting from a violent three-car crash in Dundee Township yesterday morning.

According to a report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office,  at approximately 11:30AM Thursday morning,  a Chevrolet Camaro driven by a 36 year-old male from Crystal Lake was southbound on Route 31 attempting to pass a vehicle. During the pass, the Camaro lost control and struck a northbound Volkswagen sedan driven by a 46 year-old male, also from Crystal Lake. The impact resulted in the northbound car striking a third vehicle.

The driver of the Camaro and the driver of the Volkswagen were both transported to local hospitals with life-threatening injuries. Both drivers are expected to be flown to a level 1 trauma centers for further care. The occupants of the third vehicle were treated and released at the scene.

Kane County Sheriff’s detectives and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene.

At this time, the crash scene remains under investigation and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision.
