A man was shot and killed Friday morning on Naperville’s northwest side.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., Naperville Police Officers responded to an apartment complex on the 900 block of Fairway Drive for a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Responding officers located the victim, who was transported to an area hospital and pronounced dead.

Officers quickly developed a lead on a possible suspect. Residents in the immediate area were contacted by police and notified to stay inside their homes and, following an hours-long standoff with police at an apartment building on the same block, an unidentified man was taken into custody at approximately 3:52 p.m.

Preliminary investigation indicates the victim and the person of interest knew each other and that this was not a random incident.

This remains an ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The DuPage County Coroner’s Office is also conducting an investigation into this incident.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Naperville Police Department at (630) 420-6665 and ask for the Investigations Division.
