Two masked and armed men were busy last night in Elgin, apparently having stolen one car and attempting to carjack another.
At 7:13 p.m., Elgin police were called to the 1000 block of Summit Street for a report of an attempted vehicular hijacking. According to the victim, two black male subjects described as approximately 20-30 years of age, dressed in dark clothing, wearing masks, and armed with handguns, approached the victim and demanded unspecified items.
According to the investigation, the victim escaped and fled to safety, after which the subjects left the scene in a gray SUV driven by an unknown third subject (see below.) The victim was not injured in this incident.
At approximately 7:43 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Dundee Avenue for a report of a stolen vehicle. The preliminary investigation revealed that the description of the offenders in this incident is similar to the incident in the 1000 block of Summit Street.
