A St. Charles man is in custody after leading Batavia police on a hi-speed chase down West Wilson Avenue Tuesday evening before crashing into two vehicles at the Randall Road intersection.

Just before 10pm Tuesday, Batavia Police were dispatched to the area of N. Prairie Street and Maves Drive for a reckless driving complaint. Witnesses reported that a red vehicle had been driving at a high rate of speed in the neighborhood and had nearly struck several other vehicles.

While responding to the call an officer observed the described vehicle westbound on the 100 block of W. Wilson Street driving at a high rate of speed without headlights. The officer attempted to catch up and stop the vehicle as it continued westbound disobeying the traffic signal on W. Wilson Street at Route 31.

On W. Wilson Street at Van Nortwick, the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic lanes to pass stopped vehicles, nearly striking a stopped eastbound police vehicle. The suspect vehicle then continued westbound on
W. Wilson Street at a high rate of speed leaving the officers in a position where they no longer could observe the vehicle.

Officers continued westbound on W. Wilson Street and upon approach to Randall Road discovered that the suspect vehicle had crashed into two other vehicles within the intersection.

There were no serious injuries reported because of the crash. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 21-year-old man from the 900 block of South 10th Street in St. Charles. He was taken into custody without incident and after consultation with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charged with the following.

⦁ Aggravated Fleeing of Police Officer – Class 4 Felony
⦁ Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding Police; Disobeyed Traffic Control Device – Class 4 Felony
⦁ Numerous Traffic Violations – Speeding, Reckless Driving, Disobeying Traffic Control Device
