APD has arrested a man after he drove an SUV taken in a carjacking in Chicago to Aurora and attempted to carjack another person on Tuesday afternoon.
Just after 12:45 p.m., Aurora Police’s 911 Center was notified that a Porsche SUV taken in a carjacking in Chicago was potentially on the west side of Aurora near I-88 and Orchard. The vehicle had been carjacked at approximately 11:45 a.m. and was being actively tracked with the victim’s iPhone that was still inside the car.
Officers from the Aurora Police Department and the North Aurora Police Department began searching and located the unoccupied stolen vehicle parked outside of a fast food restaurant in the 1400 block of Orchard Road. As officers approached the vehicle, they spotted a man running who matched the description of the suspect wanted in the Chicago carjacking.
As the man was running, he attempted to carjack another vehicle outside of the Chipotle in the 1500 block of Orchard Road, but was unsuccessful. The suspect continued running, but was taken into custody a few parking lots away near Chase Bank. There were no injuries reported.
The Aurora Police Department is working in conjunction with the Chicago Police Department on this investigation.
