The Illinois High School Football Playoffs got under way Friday and Saturday, and the Fox Valley acquitted itself fairly well, with high-ranking teams taking care of business and a couple of surprising upsets from the lower seeds. Here are the pairings for Round 2 next weekend.
Class 8A
#2 and #3 seeds South Elgin and Neuqua Valley moved on as expected, and Central beat North in the Battle of Naperville. Central now faces #1 seed Loyola. Both Oswego teams lost to higher seeds. Here’s what’s on tap for next weekend:

No. 19 Palatine (7-3) at No. 3 Neuqua Valley (9-1)

Class 7A
Top seed Batavia cruised to victory, while #26 Geneva pulled a major upset in defeating #7 Collinsville 28-21. #19 Jacobs also pulled a mild upset, beating #14 Hersey 48-20. #29 Elgin (Larkin) was walloped by #4 Wheaton North. Coming up:
