A 66 year-old former teacher’s aide and substitute teacher was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the criminal sexual assault of 12 children between August 2015 and June 2017.

Carlos A. Bedoya, already serving a 112-year sentence for predatory criminal sexual assault, agreed to the sentence in exchange for guilty pleas to the offenses of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Class 2 felony, 12 counts.

Kane County Circuit Judge Donald M. Tegeler, Jr., accepted the plea.

Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Tyler Cox stated that between August 2015 and June 2017 Bedoya sexually abused 12 child victims. All of the children were students at Golfview Elementary School in Carpentersville. Bedoya was their substitute teacher. The children were in kindergarten through third grade.

Bedoya also worked as a youth soccer coach for the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee Township.

In fall 2019 Bedoya was sentenced to 112 years in prison after a Kane County jury found him guilty of eight counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, Class X felony.

“This 66-year-old defendant was found guilty by a jury in 2019 of sexually abusing one child, and he was sentenced to 112 years behind bars,” Cox said after the plea was announced. “His guilty pleas in the remaining cases spares a dozen child sexual abuse survivors from the trauma and emotion of testifying in front of a jury, and it provides additional assurance that this predator will not take another breath as a free man. My thanks to the children and their families for their support and their willingness to tell their story to prevent other children from being victimized by Mr. Bedoya. My thanks also to the outstanding team at the CAC, and to everyone involved in this investigation and prosecution.”

The most recent sentence is 5 years in prison for each count for a total of 60 years. Mr. Bedoya is eligible for day-for-day sentencing.

The 60-year sentence will be served consecutive to the 112-year sentence, meaning Bedoya will spend the rest of his life in prison.

In addition to the prison term, Bedoya must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

The Kane County Child Advocacy Center investigated and prosecuted the case.
