The Elgin Police Department announced today that it will hold a Police Memorial Service on Wednesday, October 6, from 2:30-3:00 in front of the Elgin Police Station, 151 Douglas Avenue in Elgin.
All are invited to attend.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that day falls as “Police Week.” National Police Week recognizes the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement, and pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
The Elgin Police Department decided to commemorate Police Week in October this year, rather than May.
Social distancing protocols will be in place for the service.
