An apparent ambush during a drug deal Sunday evening in Batavia resulted in a shots being fired and the escape vehicle crashing into a tree.
On Sunday, September 19, at approximately 11:16 PM, Batavia Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Lorlyn Circle for a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, responding officers were directed to an unattended vehicle in the grass courtyard of the apartment complex. The vehicle was found unoccupied and had a suspected bullet hole in it.
Following an extensive search, the occupants of the vehicle were later located in a nearby residential neighborhood. The subjects admitted they had been involved in an attempted drug transaction in the area. They described the person they met with as a Male/Black wearing all white clothing. During the transaction, another person approached their vehicle from an unknown location. This subject fired at their vehicle as they began to drive away.
While attempting to elude the shooter, the subjects drove through the grass in the 1000 block of Lorlyn Circle, striking a tree before coming to a stop and fleeing the vehicle on foot.
The only description the victims were able to provide for the second suspect was a male subject wearing a blue surgical mask. The suspects left the area in an unknown direction of travel and were unable to be located by responding officers. The victims noted they observed a white van in the area that may have been related to this incident.
This shooting is believed to be an isolated incident and the Batavia Police Department has no reason to believe there is a threat to the public. This is an active and on-going investigation at this time.
