The Naperville Police Department announced yesterday that they have a suspect in custody in connection with the Sunday shooting of two men in Naperville.

The statement indicated that the department continues to follow up on all leads and information.

Two men were shot Sunday afternoon in the 600 block of Amersale Drive in Naperville in what police describe as a likely “transaction” gone bad.

The men were transported to hospitals. An 18-year-old male victim from Naperville is in critical condition and a 17-year-old male from Aurora was treated at a local hospital and released.

The suspect, who fled the scene, is described as a black male in his 20s.

On Sunday, August 29, 2021, at approximately 2:11 p.m., the Naperville Police Department responded to the 600 block of Amersale Drive to a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, there was no one on scene.

A short time later, the Aurora Police Department responded to the area of McCoy Drive and Vaughn Drive after receiving a 911 call from the victims of the shooting. There were two male victims that were located wounded and both were transported to area hospitals.

The initial investigation suggests that the parties agreed to meet at the location of the shooting to make a transaction and got into an altercation. The exact relationship of the offender and victims and the nature of the transaction remain under investigation.

The offender fled in a dark colored sedan in an unknown direction of travel. He is described as a male, black, in his 20’s.

If anyone has additional information regarding this investigation, they are encouraged to contact the Naperville Police Department at (630) 420-6665 and ask for the Investigations Division.
