Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser has charged a 19-year-old man with the offenses of reckless homicide, Class 3 felony, and driving on a revoked license, Class A misdemeanor, in a May 8 crash that killed 36-year-old Carl Bley of Hoffman Estates.

Kane County prosecutors allege that between 11:30 a.m. and noon May 8, 2021, the accused was driving a vehicle at a high rate of speed north on South Eighth Street (Route 31) in West Dundee. As he approached the intersection of Strom Drive, driving recklessly and at least 25 MPH over the posted 35 MPH limit, he struck the vehicle Bley was driving.

Bley died May 9, 2021, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin as a result of injuries suffered in the crash. The accused’s license was revoked at the time of the crash.

The accused was charged after an investigation by the West Dundee Police Department and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.

West Dundee police took him into custody on July 6, 2021. In Kane County bond court, Judge Julia Yetter set bail at $100,000, with 10 percent ($10,000) to apply for bond.
