UPDATE: Due to weather conditions this weekend, performances of Nunsense have been moved to the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin.
Up and Coming Theatre Company (UAC) and Elgin Summer Theatre (EST) bring the musical comedy NUNSENSE outdoors to Wing Park in Elgin for a Ravinia-esque experience, July 9-11 and July 16-18.
The fresh air and ample space of Wing Park will be home to the Little Sisters of Hoboken this summer. Come meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn, Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head.
All tickets are $15, and audience members can choose from multiple seating options. Benches and picnic tables are first come, first served. Two-, four-, and six-person lawn pods are also available. (We suggest you bring chairs for the rear lawn pods.) And everyone (outside of bench seats) is welcome to bring food and nonalcoholic beverages to enjoy during the show!
Performances take place at 7:30 pm on July 9, 10, 16, and 17 with 3:00 pm matinees on July 11 and 18. All performances will take place at the Wing Park Bandshell, 1010 Wing Street, Elgin, IL 60123. Tickets may be purchased at The Hemmens Cultural Center Box Office, by phone at 847-931-5900 or by going to www.hemmens.org. Group rates are available. Purchasing tickets in advance of the show is encouraged as tickets sold “at the door” will be limited.
Nunsense is the second show UAC has produced in collaboration with Elgin Summer Theatre. “We are so grateful to be producing a show this summer in a new, unique environment,” said producer Lindsey Weiss. “It is nice to take slow steps back into the theater world.”
The production staff for Nunsense includes many artists who are returning to UAC as well as a few newcomers. This show is directed and choreographed by Dina DiCostanzo, aided by Catherine Athenson as the assistant director and associate choreographer. The production features vocal direction by Kelly Fitzgerald, pit direction by Payton Kaye, set construction and consultation by Rich McMillan & Tommy Novak, and stage management by Marissa Gil.
Nunsense will be performed by a fully vaccinated cast: Katy Grocholski as Reverend Mother, Sister Mary Regina; Jen Houghton as Sister Mary Hubert; Kelsey Krigas as Sister Mary Robert Anne; Jennifer McHugh as Sister Mary Amnesia; Emma Robie as Sister Mary Leo (weekend of July 9) / Novice sister, and Amanda Wilt as Sister Mary Leo (weekend of July 16) / Novice sister.
