A man who was involved in a road rage incident Thursday in West Dundee has died from injuries incurred during the event, according to a news release from West Dundee police.
According to the release, the victim died around 11 a.m. Sunday.
The road rage incident happened around 7:30 a.m. Thursday outside the Casey’s gas station and convenience store at 700 S. Eighth St. in West Dundee.
Two vehicles had pulled into the station after a road dispute that then turned physical.
After the Thursday altercation, West Dundee Police Chief Anthony Bourski said “It appears that they had some type of dispute and I’m not sure exactly how it ended up there, if they were looking to gas up the car or if they pulled over to the side continue their motorist dispute.”
The police said witnesses told them the victim was attacked by at least one person who punched and beat him with fists, then sped away shortly after pulling in to pump gas.
“This tragic death was absolutely senseless and needless,” West Dundee Police Chief Anthony Gorski said. “Neither time constraints nor position on the roadway is worth anyone’s life.”
Police confirmed that “those responsible had been identified.”
