According to a police report, Elgin police were notified this morning of “racially-insensitive graffiti” being discovered on the exterior of Lowrie Elementary School in Elgin.
This morning at approximately 7:22 a.m. officers responded to Lowrie Elementary School, which is located at 264 Oak Street in Elgin, for a report of criminal damage to property. Officers met with a school district employee who advised them that they had located racially insensitive graffiti on the building.
The graffiti has been removed by the district. Preliminary investigation by the EPD has revealed that the graffiti was placed on the property sometime between this morning and 10:00 a.m. yesterday.
Police have given no information as to the actual language or symbolism used in the graffiti.
