The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office issued a statement today that three men have been identified and charged in connection with the death in a car crash of two Judson University students.
The crash occurred on the evening of April 20 at the entrance to Judson University, after which Dallas Colburn, a senior from Plano, Ill., and Nathanael Madison, a senior from Wernersville, Pa., were identified as the deceased victims of the accident.
According to a news release from Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser’s office, a 21 year old Elgin man is charged with aggravated driving under the influence causing death, reckless homicide, aggravated DUI no license, aggravated street racing, speeding 35+ miles over the limit and driving without a license.
A second man, 22 year old man from Carpentersville, is charged with reckless homicide, aggravated street racing, speeding 35+ over the limit and possession of 30 to 100 grams of marijuana.
A third man, 23, also from Carpentersville, is charged with aggravated speeding and driving without a license.
The release states that on evening of April 20, two of the three men were allegedly speed racing on Illinois Route 31 north of Big Timber Road, with the third man close behind. One of the cars collided with a 2004 Pontiac that was turning left from southbound Route 31 onto Judson Drive. Madison and Colburn were ejected from the Pontiac and died. Two others in the Pontiac survived.
All three men were traveling in excess of 35 mph over the posted 45 mph speed limit at impact.
One of the men had more than 5 ng/ml of delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood and did not have a valid driver’s license. Another of the men was unlawfully in possession of marijuana while the third did not have a valid driver’s license.
Two of the men have surrendered to authorities. Kahleel L. Steele, 22, of the 1-99 block of Austin Avenue, Carpentersville, remains wanted on an arrest warrant.
