AURORA MAN CHARGED IN ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING OF GIRLFRIEND
An Aurora man living in the 800 Block of N Lake St has been charged with weapons-related offenses after accidentally shooting his girlfriend inside his apartment.
Just after 9:00 am. on Tuesday, Aurora’s 911 Telecommunications Center received reports of a gunshot victim inside the apartment. Aurora police located a 19-year-old female suffering from a single gunshot wound to the buttocks.
Aurora Fire Department paramedics arrived on the scene and transported the woman to an Aurora area hospital. The victim was later transported to another area trauma center where she remains in stable condition.
A 9mm semi-automatic handgun and an unloaded magazine were located nearby.
The investigation into this incident revealed that at some time Tuesday morning, the suspect mishandled a firearm held in his possession, at which time the firearm discharged, striking the victim.
At this time there is no information that would suggest that the suspect intentionally shot his girlfriend.
He has been charged with the following offenses:
- Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony)
- Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Ineligible for a FOID) (Class 3 Felony)
The suspect remains in custody awaiting a bond hearing.
Aurora police are investigating two shootings in Aurora Monday.
At around noon, an unidentified person was shot in the 800 block of North Lake Street. The individual was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Police indicated that, at this time, there is no threat to the community and that detectives are investigating.
At approximately 9pm, police responded to a shooting incident in the 600 block of 4th Avenue. No further details were provided and a police investigation is ongoing.
