St. Charles History Museum Reopen to the Public, Unveils Slate of Adapted Summer Programs

Junior Historians Program, History Happy Hour Highlight Planned Events

The St. Charles History Museum has reopened to the public by appointment only for groups of 10 or less in accordance with state health guidelines.

Those interested in visiting the Museum’s Jack & Kathy Brens Exhibit Hall may do so by calling the Museum offices at (630) 584-6967. Appointments are available in hour-long slots during normal operating hours, 11 am – 4 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Gift Shop customers do not need an appointment.

The Museum’s current temporary exhibit, Booming Business in the Beauty Spot of the Fox Valley, explores the history of local business and industry that have shaped St. Charles, and is slated to be on display until August. Admission to the Museum is free, but a $5 donation is suggested.

In addition to reopening, the Museum has introduced adapted programming for the summer months. The Museum has brought back its popular Junior Historians Program in partnership with the St. Charles Public Library, designed to give kids a look at local history, combined with a historic themed craft. The programs will be virtual and posted on the Museum’s social media on select Fridays during the summer.

On July 23, the Museum plans to hold its annual ‘History Happy Hour Cruise’ in partnership with the Park District aboard the St. Charles Paddlewheel Riverboats. The cruise will correspond with the opening of a new pop-up exhibit celebrating the 75th anniversary of the paddleboats which will be on display in the atrium of the Pottawatomie Community Center.

Lastly, the Museum plans to resume its ‘Music at the Museum’ program on August 15th when it welcomes local folk duo Make it a Double. The performance will be held on the Museum’s front patio space, with social distancing measures in place. Admission will be $20 per ticket, with appetizers and two drinks included.
