A public hearing regarding zoning for recreational cannabis sales in St. Charles will be held at the Sept. 17, 2019, Plan Commission Meeting, at 7 p.m., in City Council Chambers, 2 E. Main Street. Hearing details  www.stcharlesil.gov/news/2019/08/30/plan-commission-amendment-zoning-ordinance-91719

Aldermen voted 6-3 at the Aug. 19, 2019, Government Operations Committee Meeting to direct City staff to begin the process of amending the City’s zoning ordinance to allow two recreational sales facilities: one on the east side of St. Charles and one on the west side.

Any recommendations from the Plan Commission will be considered at a future meeting of the Planning and Development Committee of the City Council.

Official agendas are posted on the City of St. Charles website 48 hours prior to a meeting at www.stcharlesil.gov/meetings.

The possession and private consumption of cannabis by people 21 or older for recreational use will be legal in Illinois beginning Jan. 1, 2020. However, municipalities may choose whether or not to allow retail cannabis stores in their communities, and if so, how many stores are allowed, and where they can be located.
