Naperville’s Indian American Community Featured at Event Celebrate Naperville

Naper Settlement’s Celebrate Naperville, an annual event that rotates its offerings to feature different elements of Naperville’s rich story, focused on the Indian American community this past Sunday.

Patrons were immersed in Indian American culture, with activities ranging from musical performances, mehndi hand painting, a sari fashion show, dance performances, and demonstrations on cricket, turban tying, and hijab wrapping.

Celebrate Naperville’s programming coincided with the museum’s 2019 exhibit, “Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation”. The exhibit, created by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, explores the contributions of Indian immigrants and Indian Americans to communities nationwide. The exhibit is on view now through October 13 at Naper Settlement.
