Moni’s Soulfood Fiesta will be opening on Friday, September 18th at 13 Douglas Avenue. A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be hosted by the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin. All are welcome to attend. The ceremony will take place outdoors beginning at 11am, followed by the opportunity to meet owner Monique Howery and experience menu items. Social distancing guidelines will be followed.
Moni’s Soulfood Fiesta will highlight bold flavors infusing Jamaican spice and Mexican flavor. An enticing menu has been designed to feature 17 permanent items based on recipes passed down from grandparents and family members as well as new recipes personally created by the owner. Customers should expect traditional soul food/Mexican/Jamaican items such as collard greens, mac and cheese, tacos and jerk chicken. Additional specialties such as pozole, pork and fried corn, along with cultural fusion entrees, will make rotating appearances on the menu.
Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin’s Executive Director, Jennifer Fukala, has worked with Moni’s Soulfood Fiesta and is excited to welcome another business into Downtown Elgin. “It has been a pleasure to work with Monique and we are thrilled to welcome her. There is already a lot of anticipation for the opening and we feel it will be a wonderful addition to the business community in Downtown Elgin.”
