Masks or No Masks?: Readers Respond

Fox Valley Magazine readers are as divided about the the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) new mask guidance as they are about seemingly everything else.

According to our (non-scientific) web poll, 52% of respondents indicated that they either completely agree (39%) or agree with some reservations (13%) with the CDC’s announcement that vaccinated people can now go maskless in all but a few limited circumstances.

Conversely, 41% believe that it’s too early (30%) or that the mask mandates should apply until everyone is vaccinated (11%).

7% of respondents are still unsure.

The poll was prompted by the CDC’s recent announcement of new COVID mitigation guidelines that lifted, with a few exceptions, masking requirements for fully vaccinated people.  While this announcement was met with enthusiasm by most, reservations within the epidemiology community remained.

Comments on Facebook in response to our post reflected the mixed verdict.

“We have been to Florida 3 x and it’s almost back to normal no masks and no major outbreaks either concerts beaches live shows and no problems.”

“Mask – I’m fully vaccinated but have a young granddaughter and another on the way. I’m masking for others who need it.”

“Unmask but no judgement to anyone who still wants to wear one.”

“Mask.. Too early and I don’t trust people. I’m fully vaccinated and still wear my mask.”

For those who wish to weigh in, the poll is still open.  Click here to vote.
