Hickory Knolls Discovery Center will be holding a Native Plant Sale on Saturday, June 5, from 9am-4pm.
Native plants are adapted to the soils and climate of our area. These plant species provide a habitat for a wide variety of native wildlife, and at the same time provide an attractive, low-maintenance landscape. Native plants do not require irrigation or fertilizer, are resistant to drought and insects, and will not harm or degrade native ecosystems.
A few of the species available during the sale include:
Butterfly Milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa)
Wild Geranium (Geranium maculatum)
Jacob’s Ladder (Polemonium reptans)
Prairie Phlox (Phlox pilosa)
Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis)
Jack-in-the-Pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum)
Prairie Dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis)
Prairie Blazing Star (Liatris pycnostachya)
Naturalists will be on hand to provide assistance on plant species and their growing conditions.
