Get in the Game for Elgin’s Fourth of July Parade

The City of Elgin’s Fourth of July Parade begins Thursday, July 4 at 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Slade and Douglas Avenues and continues south on Douglas through the heart of downtown Elgin, ending at Highland Avenue.

In conjunction with the Gail Borden Public Library’s summer sports exhibit, this year’s parade theme is “Get in the Game.” Floats will be decorated with a fun, sports theme and many parade participants will wear costumes of a sports nature.

Keeping with the theme, this year’s parade grand marshal is Elgin Academy, whose baseball team will participate as they celebrate their recent 2019 conference championship. Elgin Academy is also celebrating its 180-year anniversary.

“There are so many participants for this year’s parade,” said Kate O’Leary, City of Elgin Special Events Coordinator, “The local businesses, organizations and entertainment acts will showcase the many facets and pride of our community.”

Parade entertainment includes marching bands from Elgin, Larkin and Streamwood High Schools, the Jesse White Tumblers, the Pack Drumline, Medinah Motor Corps and more. For a complete roster of this year’s participating parade units, please visit cityofelgin.org/july4.

The parade will kick off at 9:00 a.m. with Tricia Dieringer and Jeorge Holmes singing of the National Anthem.

Jeff Myers and Kyle Bault will provide start-to-finish commentary of the parade, which will be rebroadcast on Channel 17 throughout the month of July, and available on the City of Elgin’s YouTube Channel. WRMN-AM 1410 will broadcast live from the parade on the radio and on Facebook Live. Jason Pawlowski will serve as PA announcer at the judges’ stand. The parade will also be broadcast live on the Elgin Police Department’s Facebook page.
