Gail Borden Library’s Comic Book Mania Convention to Present Batmobile August 17

A replica of the original Batmobile featured in the 1960’s TV show Batman will be the star of this Saturday’s Comic Book Mania Convention from 10 am to 4 pm at Gail Borden Library, 270 N. Grove Ave.,Elgin. Visitors will be able to get their photo taken near the Batmobile with word props similar to those shown in the TV show such as “BAM!” and “KAPOW!”

The original Batmobile used in the TV show starring Adam West as Batman was created by George Barris, who built only three replicas of the original. Barris was well known for creating cars for TV shows including the Munster Koach from The Munsters. One of the Barris-built Batmobile replicas will be on display at the Library during the event. It will be on loan from the Volo Auto Museum.

In its 10th year, the convention is a free family event that is a favorite among comic books fans.  Visitors will be able to create their own sidekick, meet comic book artists and writers, participate in a superhero dance party, havefun in a superhero escape room and much more. Those who wear a costume will win a prize.
