Forging Ahead: Chicagoland Theatre Company Creates Virtual Program to Develop New Plays

Kane Repertory Theatre is excited to announce The New Play Lab. This weekly virtual program will focus on helping professional playwrights from across the country develop their new works. The New Play Lab offers a virtual rehearsal room to these playwrights, connecting them with actors from the KRT ensemble and beyond. The goals of The New Play Lab are simple:

  1. To support the playwrights’ needs in order to further develop their plays.
  2. To invest in artists that further the integrity of the American theatre.

Starting Wednesday, May 27th at 7:30pm (CST) we invite audiences to join us for virtual readings of these scripts on YouTube Live. You, the audience, will get a firsthand look at the development of these works!  You can also become an integral part of the creative process by joining us for post-read discussions.

We are thrilled to announce the first four selections that will be workshopped and shared with the public! These playwrights have had their work produced and/or developed Off-Broadway and/or in professional theatres across the country. The works touch on many current issues that make up our cultural landscape such as race relations, escapism through technology,  PC culture, and religious awakening.

Here are the first four plays workshopped by The New Play Lab:
