Elgin Prepares for signature Halloween event, Nightmare on Chicago Street

Nightmare on Chicago Street takes place on Saturday, October 20, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The “Safe Zone” encompasses Chicago Street, Spring Street, Grove Avenue and DuPage Court. The event provides vendors, food, live music, entertainment, a freak show, thunderdome and much more for attendees to enjoy.

This year’s event features three stages of live music covering several variations of sound. Announcements of acts will be posted on the event website and Facebook page.

The event is sure to be a palette pleaser with an Absinthe Parlor, a hookah lounge, beer and liquor vendors, and several food vendors. Nightmare on Chicago Street also feature its usual costume contest and guest of honor, Svengoolie.

This year’s event will have a “homecoming” theme, with rivals Elgin High School and Larkin High School taking on special roles. The expanded and centrally located medical prop area will allow attendees to see the metamorphosis from human to zombie and also witness surgical demonstrations.

A limited amount of early-bird tickets for $12 are available on the event website, nightmareonchicagostreet.com. Ticket prices will increase to $15 beginning Friday, October 19. New this year: Tickets will also be available the night of the event at off-site box offices. Ticket scanning will occur at four entrance gates to the event zone to ensure an easy entrance experience. Advance ticket purchases are encouraged.

Event admittance is open to those age 17 and older.  Those under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  No weapons of any kind, real or fake, will be permitted at the event. Consuming alcohol will require a valid I.D., which will be checked at all gates. Absolutely no strollers or outside coolers will be permitted into the “Safe Zone.”
