Christkindlmarket and Naper Lights return to Naper Settlement

Holiday happenings are aplenty at Naper Settlement, as Christkindlmarket and Naper Lights return to the 13-acre museum campus for their third and fourth consecutive years, respectively.

Christkindlmarket Naperville, presented by German American Events, brings a taste of Germany’s renowned outdoor market in Nuremberg to Chicago’s western suburbs. The market features forty-five vendors in 2018, selling holiday wares such as ornaments, gift sets, and more. German food and beverages, including bratwurst, beer, and glühwein will also be available for purchase. Naper Settlement will have a booth on site, selling memberships and holiday light-up necklaces to benefit the museum’s education programs. Local vendors SaraBoo Creek and Le Chocolat du Bouchard will also be at the market with their offerings.

In its third year, the market has brought an influx of visitors each holiday season, showcasing the City of Naperville’s offerings to the greater Chicagoland area. “Naper Settlement serves as a place for the community to gather and hosting Christkindlmarket Naperville is no exception. 245,000 people experienced the market in 2017, with many visitors from outside of Naperville. We are thrilled to welcome German American Events back to the museum for another year of holiday spirit and provide a gathering place for patrons from all across the Chicagoland area to connect,” stated Harriet Pistorio, chief operating officer of Naper Settlement.

The market will be open from November 23 through December 24. The hours of the market are Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For the week of Christmas, the market’s hours will change as follows: December 17-20 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., December 21 and 22 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., December 23 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and December 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Christkindlmarket Naperville is free and open to the public.

Also at Naper Settlement this holiday season is Naper Lights, presented by The Sunrise Rotary Club of Naperville. This walkthrough light display offers a magical holiday celebration for guests to experience. The walkthrough is located on the western side of Naper Settlement’s grounds and is free and open to the public. Lights come on at 4 p.m. on all Christkindlmarket days and remain on until closing.

In addition to these events hosted at Naper Settlement, the museum also brings back its popular Santa at the Settlement holiday program, where children can make holiday ornaments, decorate cookies, and have a meet and greet with Santa and Mrs. Claus. This program runs December 1, 8, and 15 from 9-11 a.m. Guests can also explore Winter Wonderland, a new holiday tree display on the south end of the property, and learn about the world of vintage As-Seen-On-TV products in our holiday exhibit, “…And It Makes a Great Christmas Gift: The History of Popeil & Ronco”, running November 23 through December 24. History Speaks: Popeil & Ronco Chop’d Challenge, a special interactive cooking competition program on December 9, accompanies this exhibit. “…And It Makes a Great Christmas Gift: The History of Popeil & Ronco” is presented by Ron and Claudia Stenger.
