The City of Geneva announced today that the Geneva flag would be lowered to half mast in honor of Ann Burns, mother of Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns. The announcement indicated that Ann passed on May 3. She was 81 years old. For over a year, Rene Tux Ico of Aurora sexually assaulted a young family member who had just arrived in the United States. In exchange for pleading guilty to the crime, Ico has been sentenced to 18 years in prison. Last Thursday, Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. This morning, the Chicago Tribune published an article declaring that “suburban women voters” would become even more politically important in light of recent indications that the Supreme Court is ready to overturn the Court’s controversial 1973 decision in Roe vs. Wade that effectively removed any legal barriers to abortion throughout the full term of pregnancy. Three people were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a two-car crash on I-88 near Sugar Grove in Kane County Saturday afternoon. According to Illinois State police, the two cars were both westbound on I-88 when the first vehicle sideswiped the second vehicle’s front driver’s side quarter panel and lost control. The first vehicle rolled over and one person was ejected. No further information is available at this time.

What police are calling an “altercation” between two individuals in Elgin last night led to the fatal shooting of a dog. At approximately 8:44 p.m. yesterday evening, officers responded to the 200 block of Gifford Place for a report of shots fired. The preliminary investigation revealed that there was an altercation between subjects, and at some point, a subject discharged a firearm, striking a dog. The dog was deceased upon the arrival of officers, and a juvenile subject was taken into custody on scene. This is the 23rd gunfire incident in Elgin this year. The racing world was shocked today as 80-1 longshot Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby. It was the second-longest shot in Derby history to win the prestigious race. The first was Donerail, which won in 1913 after closing as a 91-1 longshot.  Before Friday morning, Rich Strike was not even in the field. He drew into the race when Ethereal Road was scratched. The Kane County Coroner’s Office Friday identified the 43-year-old Geneva woman found dead from a gunshot wound earlier this week. According to a press release issued by the Coroner’s Office, the woman is Jodi Grzeda-Anderson. An autopsy on Friday indicated that the preliminary cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the head. Toxicology test results are still outstanding. Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said Grzeda-Anderson’s body was found in the back yard of her home. A female relative living in the Chicago area called police at 8:02 p.m. on Wednesday to report the woman as possibly missing. Geneva…
