Yesterday afternoon, a man allegedly committed a hit-and-run in Sleepy Hollow and then crashed his vehicle into a tree while trying to escape. The driver, 58-year-old Martin Contreras, was transported to an Elgin area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The condition of the victim of the hit-and-run has not been disclosed. On Saturday at approximately 4:35pm, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a traffic crash with injuries at the intersection of Sleepy Hollow Rd and Boncosky Road in unincorporated Dundee Township. Last June, a food delivery driver made his way to the 700 block of Royal St. George Drive to make what he thought was a typical delivery, albeit an early morning one (12:30am). Upon arriving, the driver was accosted by two male Black subjects and robbed of his wallet and car keys. A man who is suspected of shooting at two people in Maple Park, and who subsequently barricaded himself in a house, surrendered to police without incident early this morning. Now entering its 24th year, the Maple Park Fun Fest will be held this Saturday through Labor Day in downtown Maple Park. The Fest began back in 1998 as a slow-pitch softball tournament (still park of its offering) and gradually expanded into a three-day celebration of Maple Park and small-town Illinois generally. A Naperville woman who was an attendee of the ill-fated “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington, DC, on January 6, 2021, has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in relation to the violent breech of the Capitol that day. Dawn Frankowski, 54, pleaded guilty to “Parading, Demonstrating or Picketing in a Capitol Building,” according to federal court filings in the US District Court of Washington, DC.
