The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued new, controversial guidance on the necessity of masks in schools, and it is causing some school districts to reassess plans that were arrived at only after painstaking debate. The new guidelines, which reverse guidance that was issued by the CDC just three weeks ago, call on all schools to require masks for students, teachers and visitors, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or unvaccinated. The inspirational story of Geneva native and cancer-survivor Kevin McDowell goes on. On Saturday (Tokyo time), McDowell brought home the silver medal in the Olympic debut of the triathlon mixed relay. The result marks the second time in five days that McDowell has made Olympic history in the games.
