Another Spectacular Year in the Works for Prairiefest

PrairieFest, the area’s popular community festival is back this June 13-16, 2019.

Presented by the Oswegoland Park District and First National Bank, the fest combines small town charm with a stirring summer celebration over Father’s Day weekend.

Free concerts from a mix of national and local bands, along with entertaining performances have always been a highlight of the weekend, and this year’s lineup is sure not to disappoint. Partnered with free parking and free admission, the PrairieFest schedule fills a great weekend.

For family entertainment, PrairieFest is going to the dogs. Chris Perondi’s Stunt Dog Show will be wowing crowds all weekend. Chris’s talented furry best friends are amazing stunt dogs who have been rescued from shelters all across the country. With tours to state fairs, national theme parks, and the Oprah Winfrey show, the Oswegoland Park District is excited for the original stunt dog show to stop at PrairieFest.

The Hillbilly Science Show will also have performances all Friday and Saturday to the delight of the crowds.  Throughout the weekend guests can visit the petting zoo, pony rides, gymnastics obstacle course, and kids activity times for art and play. All entertainment is complimentary for the folks visiting the festival.

The Oswego Brewing Company partners with the festival in 2019. Oswego’s own brewery creates PrairieFest Ale for guests on the grounds.  This slightly hazy, straw-colored beer was inspired by sunny afternoons at the festival and nights in front of a good band and a cool breeze.

Thursday’s celebration begins with talented student groups, culminating with The PrairieWinds Community Concert, a PrairieFest tradition for musicians in our area. Anyone interested in joining the community band can contact Kristie Vest at kvest@oswegolandpd.org or 630.554.4425.

The Park District partners with the Oswego Public Library to host a Midwest favorite for the Friday Family Concert. Jim Gill will have little kiddos and their parents dancing across the festival lawn on Friday, June 14.

Music from the First National Bank Main Stage will be a thrill and chill all weekend. Regional crowd favorite, Mike & Joe will open the festival on Thursday. Local act Tricky Mission will kick off Friday for the 90s band Spin Doctors on Friday night. Fans will be looking for Spin Doctor’s hits, “Two Princes”, and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong”.

Saturday night looks to be a record-breaker as PrairieFest brings together two homegrown favorites. Oswego’s DeMont Guitars has been making guitars for the last decade. Oswego High School alumni Colin Sullivan set his first Guinness World Record in 2012. They come together this summer in Saturday night’s Main Stage Moment. On June 15 at 5:30pm, Colin will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Longest duration balancing a guitar on his chin using one of Demont’s instruments.

The good times will continue with Naperville’s Summer Son. Their Feel Good Country Music is a high energy, country/folk/Electro-Bluegrass that will bring the party to PrairieFest. They open for alternative heartland rock sensation, the BoDeans with their “Closer to Free”, “Only Love”, and “Good Things”. A permanent installation at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they formed out of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and have mastered multiple genres including roots rock and alternative rock.

PrairieFest celebrates Father’s Day with the annual 5K Race and One Mile Prairie Dog Jog. Registration available race day at Prairie Point Center, 313 East Washington, Oswego. The biggest Father’s Day parade in the state steps off at 1pm downtown Oswego. Check out this year’s parade theme, Out of This World, celebrating 50 years since the moon landing.

The festival culminates back on the grounds with the PrairieFest car show, Tag Team Cotton Candy Eating Contest, and more great music. Everyone will join fathers in enjoying a special performance from the Beatles Tribute band, American English.

PrairieFest weekend is always entertaining and this year’s schedule delivers on the tradition again.
