The Fox River, Pottawatomie Park in St. Charles will be the setting for a leisurely Paddlewheel Riverboat excursion for forty disabled veterans from several facilities in the Fox Valley Area on two dates. On June 27th, from 5:30-8:00pm residents from Heritage Woods of Elgin and Batavia, Brighton Gardens of St. Charles and DuPage Care Center, Wheaton will enjoy a complimentary fried chicken picnic dinner from Catering Made Simple of Elgin, along with dessert provided by Post 342 and home baked goods provided by the team at Random Acts Matter in St. Charles.
On July 11th, residents from Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, Hines, Illinois will travel by bus to enjoy the same evening, served by approximately 15 volunteers, among them Post 342 veterans, the Legion Auxiliary and Random Acts Matter volunteers. They will provide food service, a spirited trivia game, a free raffle of lap blankets hand-crocheted by Auxiliary Vice President Doris Van Wye, binoculars for the tour and a personalized veteran-to-veteran visit during each cruise. All guests will receive a gift bag at the close of the event, provided by Post 342, Auxiliary, Be a Hero to a Hero and Random Acts Matter. This year, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Devil Dog Arms, St. Charles and owner Barry Bourdage, the paddlewheel boats will feature two 12’ banners to honor our very special passengers on June 27th and on July 11th.
