Two Chicago brothers have been apprehended and charged with the murder of a Chicago police officer and the serious injury of her partner.
A 21 year-old Chicago man is charged with first-degree murder in Saturday’s fatal shooting of 29-year-old officer Ella French, as well as attempted murder and other charges. His brother, 22, faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and obstruction of justice.
No charges have yet been brought against a woman who was riding in the car with the two brothers during the incident.
The two officers were fired upon after they pulled over a vehicle carrying two men and a woman just after 9 p.m. Saturday in the South Side neighborhood of West Englewood, according to police.
The condition of the second officer injured in the shooting, whose name has not yet been released, is unknown. On Sunday, first deputy superintendent Eric Carter described the wounded second officer as “fighting for his very life” at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
