Naperville police are searching for a man they suspect was responsible for a shooting Wednesday evening in the 700 block of Genesee Drive in Naperville.
At approximately 7:36 p.m. Wednesday evening, police responded to report of shots fired at a basketball court in Country Lakes Park. When officers arrived, the court was clear of people, but a caller had given a description of the possible offender.
An officer encountered a subject matching that description a short time later near North Aurora Road and Fairway Drive. That subject fled on foot and was not located after a search of the area by officers, including a K-9 unit.
A shell casing was located at the basketball court, but there was no indication that anyone had been hurt.
The preliminary investigation indicated that two subjects got into an altercation and one retrieved a firearm from a bag. He then fired the weapon, apparently missing the other party.
The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 20-30 years of age, approximately 5’8”- 5’11”, thin build, short hair, tattoos, shirtless, wearing jeans, armed with handgun.
There were numerous potential witnesses reportedly near the court at the time of the shooting. If anyone has additional information regarding this investigation, they are encouraged to contact the Naperville Police Department at (630) 420-6665 and ask for the Investigations Division.
