The Aurora Police Special Operations Group (SOG) is on a roll.
On Friday, the department announced that for the third consecutive day, SOG investigators conducted proactive enforcement operations resulting in arrests and significant seizures, this time recovering a large quantity of cannabis and THC products, along with more than $16,000 in cash.
“Our Special Operations Group continues to show the value of proactive police work and strong partnerships across our department,” said Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas. “The results we’ve seen over these three days reflect the experience, persistence, and commitment of our investigators and the specialized units supporting them. Their work is identifying criminal activity, getting illegal guns and drugs off our streets, and holding those responsible accountable. Our officers will continue being proactive, following leads, and addressing the criminal activity that impacts our community.”
According to police, on Wednesday at approximately 6:04pm, SOG investigators, with assistance from the Community Oriented Policing (COP) Unit, K9 officers, and Drone Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Bluff Street where they found:
- 1,658 grams of cannabis
- 3,085 THC vapes containing approximately 6,236 grams
- 24 jars of THC wax containing approximately 443 grams
- 945 grams of pre-rolled THC cigarillos
- 107 THC chocolate bars (64.2 grams)
- 80 pouches of THC gummies (40 grams)
- 41 cartridges of THC liquid
- $16,545 in cash
A 19-year-old Aurora man was taken into custody and transported to the Aurora Police Department for further investigation.
Following a review of the case, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges of Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver, a Class X Felony, and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, a Class 1 Felony.
A second individual who was detained during the execution of the search warrant was released without charges.
The defendant remains in custody at the Kane County Adult Justice Center pending a detention hearing.
