Aurora Police Special Operations Group (SOG) investigators made multiple felony arrests on back-to-back days this week, recovering four firearms, a significant amount of suspected narcotics, ammunition, and cash during separate investigations involving confirmed gang members.
According to police, on Monday SOG investigators conducted traffic stops on two separate vehicles, resulting in the arrests of two confirmed gang members and the recovery of two firearms.
At approximately 5:51pm, investigators conducted a traffic stop in the area of Marshall Avenue and Highland Avenue. During a search of the vehicle, investigators recovered an unloaded HK P30 9mm handgun and a bag containing 37 rounds of 9mm ammunition alongside it. Investigators determined the handgun had been reported stolen out of Houston, Texas.
A 23-year-old confirmed gang member and convicted felon was taken into custody, charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Street Gang Member , a Class 2 Felony; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, a Class 3 Felony; Multiple counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, including Class 4 Felonies; Driving While License Revoked – Second Offense/Revocation for DUI a Class 4 Felony; and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis by Driver, a Class A Misdemeanor.
The defendant, from Aurora, was also cited for disobeying a stop sign. He remains in custody at the Kane County Adult Justice Center, with his next court date scheduled for September 30, 2026.
Later that evening, at approximately 7:45pm, SOG investigators conducted a second traffic stop in the area of Route 30 and Douglas Road after observing a traffic violation. During the stop, investigators found an 18-year-old Centralia man armed with a Glock 19X 9mm handgun with an extended magazine in his waistband. The handgun was loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition.
The suspect, a confirmed gang member, was taken into custody and charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Street Gang Member, a Class 2 Felony; Unlawful Use of a Weapon,a Class 3 Felony; and Four additional felony Unlawful Use of a Weapon charges. He remains in custody at the Kane County Adult Justice Center, with his next court date scheduled for October 1, 2026. The driver of the vehicle was cited for failure to signal and released.
In a separate investigation the following day, September 22, at approximately 6:30pm, SOG investigators, with assistance from the Community Oriented Policing (COP) Unit, K9 officers, and Drone Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of South Elmwood Drive where two Aurora gang members, ages 33 and 34, were taken into custody without incident.
During a search of the residence, investigators recovered approximately 1,596 grams of suspected cocaine, 205 suspected Adderall pills, 15 suspected ecstasy pills, a Glock 19 9mm handgun loaded with 12 rounds, a Ruger .22-caliber rifle, approximately 450 rounds of ammunition, two digital scales, a vacuum sealer, drug packaging materials, and $2,066 in cash.
Based on the investigation and evidence recovered, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved multiple felony drug and weapons charges against both gang members.
“This illustrates why it is so important to have our officers out patrolling in our community. Their presence and effort are a major factor in keeping violent crime down,” said Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas. “Getting illegal firearms out of the hands of gang members and convicted felons is an important part of our commitment to reducing violent crime in our city. Taking these weapons, including one that had been reported stolen, and illegal drugs off our streets can help prevent future violence.”
