Sunday was a busy day for first responders along the Fox River.
As previously reported, two individuals were rescued from the Fox River Sunday morning by Elgin firefighters after their boat capsized North of Interstate 90.
About two hours later, Geneva firefighters and police officers rescued two women after they fell out of their kayaks into the Fox River near the 800 block of North Bennett Street.
In the second incident, the Geneva Fire Department was dispatched at 10:43pm for a river rescue. While en route, Geneva firefighters and police officers were notified by Tri-Com Central Dispatch that a bystander had heard screaming coming from the Fox River near Bennett Street.
Two Geneva Police officers entered the river and were able to assist one of the women to shore.
A Geneva Fire Department rescue boat was deployed to the river and successfully rescued the second woman along with an assisting police officer.
One woman was transported to an area hospital, while the second refused medical treatment. No further information is available on the women’s conditions.
Firefighters, paramedics, and divers from the St. Charles and Batavia Fire Departments assisted Geneva during the rescue. Additional support was provided by the Geneva Police Department.
