Go back to the days of flappers, spats, and 23-skidoo by participating in The Roaring 20s History Crawl on Saturday, September 24, in St. Charles. The event is presented by the Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley.

Hundreds of residents and visitors will tour 1920s sites associated with fun and recreation during the Roaring Twenties. Both hidden and iconic downtown St. Charles sites will showcase the good times before the Great Depression; from prohibition-impacted businesses to good, clean, outdoor fun.

    Activities will include:

    • Behind-The-Scenes tour of the recently renovated Arcada Theatre. See the original sculptures from the lobby ceiling, signatures by some of the performers on the back stage walls, and the colorfully decorated dressing rooms. Also get sneak peaks at the soon-to-open Rock ‘N Ravioli Restaurant, Barcada lounge, and Arcadian Suites.
    • Guided tour of the recently renovated Baker Memorial Community Center. See the upgraded ballroom, lounge, and teen center. Plus, discover where the swimming pool and bowling alley used to be.
    • Self-guided “history crawl” of locations where the fun was found in St. Charles in the 1920s.
    • Scavenger hunt — uncover some of the hidden-in-plain-sight details of downtown St. Charles. All entries will be entered into a drawing for $50 gift card.
    • Enjoy special offers and discounts from select downtown businesses.
    • Optional reception at Club Arcada Speakeasy, 3-5 pm for guests 21+ includes appetizers served by flappers and games that were played in the 1920s like craps, cards, cribbage, checkers, and more.

The event runs from 1pm – 5pm, although it is a self-paced, “come-when-you-can” event. It
starts at the William Beith House, 8 Indiana Street, St. Charles.

Tickets are $20/adult – tour only; $0/child – tour only, 12 and under; $35/adult – tour and reception (Ages 21+) and registration is available here.
