17-Year-Old Gets Plea Deal For 12 Years In 2020 Shooting Of Aurora Man

On the afternoon of November 29, 2020, 16-year-old Christian Capuchino of Aurora and a co-defendant fired dozens of gunshots at a defenseless victim in East Aurora. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and 49 shell casings were recovered from the scene by Aurora police.

Last week, Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser announced that Capuchino, now 17 years old, had agreed to a plea deal wherein, in return for pleading guilty to one county of aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class X felony, he will receive 12 years in prison, less time served.

Under state law, Capuchino will be required to serve at least 85% of his sentence, or a little more than ten years.

“Christian Capuchino’s age did not insulate him from having to accept responsibility for his violent actions of November 29, 2020,” said Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Engerman. “Other young people should take note that when warranted, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office will prosecute juvenile offenders vigorously to protect public safety and vindicate the rights of victims. My thanks to the members of the Aurora Police Department for their thorough investigation into this matter.”
