Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced that a jury found Elgin’s Moses V. Williamson, 33, guilty of the offense of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, a Class 2 felony. The defendant failed to appear in court for the trial causing him to be tried in absentia.
Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Lori Anderson and Jake Matekaitis presented evidence that, at about 6 a.m. on January 23, 2019, Aurora police served a search warrant at the Williamson’s residence located in the 1100 block of South Fourth Street, Aurora. During the search investigators found a Ruger Mark III .22-caliber handgun and multiple .22-caliber bullets.
When questioned by police, Williamson admitted he owned the gun. Williamson has prior felony drug and robbery convictions and is prohibited by law from possessing a gun.
In addition to the gun conviction, Williamson has been charged but not tried with criminal damage to property, a Class 4 felony. A warrant for his arrest on this charge and failing to appear before the court has also been issued.
