A Kane County grand jury has indicted a 17-year-old juvenile in the attempted carjacking and shooting of a woman in an Aurora parking lot in January 2021.

The incident left the victim paralyzed for life.

The juvenile, from suburban Harvey, was charged with:

    • Attempt first-degree murder, Class X felony
    • Aggravated battery with a firearm, Class X felony
    • Armed violence, Class X felony, 2 counts
    • Aggravated vehicular hijacking, Class X felony
    • Unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, Class 2 felony, 2 counts
    • Unlawful possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification Card, Class 3 felony
    • Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, Class 4 felony

Kane County prosecutors originally charged the accused as a juvenile then petitioned the court to transfer the case to adult court. On March 14, 2022, Kane County Judge Sandra Parga granted the request.

After Judge Parga’s ruling, prosecutors presented the case to the grand jury which granted a true bill. Kane County Judge John Barsanti then set Gonzalez’s bail at $500,000 with 10 percent ($50,000) to apply for bond.

Gonzalez appeared Thursday in Kane County bond court. Kane County Judge Julia Yetter set Gonzalez’s next court appearance for 9 a.m. on April 6, 2022 in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
