For the seventh time in seven days days, and the fourth time in three days, Elgin police have responded to reports of gunfire in the night. This time, the results were fatal for one victim.

On Monday morning at 2:11 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of N. Jackson Street for a report of a shooting.

Officers located three adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds who were immediately transported to area hospitals for treatment. One victim has since been pronounced deceased. The decedent’s identity is being withheld pending notifications.

The second victim sustained a serious injury; the third victim sustained what appears to be a non-life-threatening injury.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that several subjects were at the residence and, at some point, a verbal altercation ensued resulting in the victims being shot. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

Detectives from the Major Investigations Division are actively investigating the case and updates will be provided as they become available. If you have information that may assist, please call 847-289-2600 or to text a tip, send a message to 847411.
