One person is dead after an accident involving a car and bicycle Wednesday morning.

At approximately 11:49 a.m., Elgin Police and Fire Departments responded to Big Timber and Randall Road for a report of a bicyclist that had been struck by a vehicle.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle being driven by a 24-year-old male was traveling southbound on Randall Road when it struck a 60-year-old male bicyclist. The bicyclist was traveling southbound Randall Road in the right lane along the curb and moved to the left lane where the bicyclist then made contact with the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and the bicyclist was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The decedent’s identity is being withheld pending notifications, and the Kane County Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

No arrest or citations have been issued at this time and the Traffic Unit continues to investigate the crash. Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation is encouraged to call (847) 289-2661 or send a text to 847-411, and include ELGINPD at the beginning followed by the message or tip.
